Mercedes-Benz User Experience, or MBUX, is the technology platform that brings infotainment, navigation, vehicle settings, connectivity, and voice control together inside a Mercedes-Benz vehicle. More than a traditional touchscreen system, MBUX is designed to make many vehicle functions accessible through multiple interfaces, including touch, steering-wheel controls, and natural-language voice commands.

What Is MBUX?

MBUX is Mercedes-Benz’s digital cockpit and multimedia system. Depending on the model and equipment, it can incorporate a digital instrument display, central touchscreen, navigation, smartphone integration, connected services, and voice control.

Current Mercedes-Benz models use newer generations of MBUX, with features varying by vehicle. The system can also support over-the-air software updates, allowing certain software-based improvements to be delivered without a traditional dealership visit.

How “Hey Mercedes” Voice Control Works

One of the defining MBUX features is its natural-language voice assistant. Drivers can activate the system using the “Hey, Mercedes” keyword and issue commands using conversational language.

Depending on the vehicle, drivers can use voice commands for functions such as navigation, climate control, entertainment, and other vehicle settings. The goal is to reduce the need to navigate through menus while driving.

MBUX Profiles and Personalization

MBUX can also personalize the driving experience through individual user profiles. Depending on the vehicle, profiles can remember settings and preferences so that different drivers can more easily access their preferred configuration.

Some current Mercedes-Benz models also incorporate biometric authentication, adding another layer of personalization and security to the digital experience.

Navigation and Augmented Reality

Available MBUX navigation technology can go beyond traditional turn-by-turn directions. On equipped models, MBUX Augmented Video for Navigation can use the vehicle’s camera system to display a live view of the road with navigation information overlaid on the screen.

This can make complicated intersections and unfamiliar roads easier to understand.
