A Sleek New Chapter: The All-Electric Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake
At Mercedes-Benz of Wichita, we’re always excited to see what’s next—and the third-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA lineup is bringing innovation and elegance in equal measure. Arriving this fall, the all-new CLA sedan ushers in a bold new era as a fully electric compact four-door, with a hybrid variant scheduled to join the range early next year.
But what’s turning just as many heads overseas is the debut of the CLA Shooting Brake—Mercedes-Benz’s first-ever electric station wagon. With its sweeping long-roof design, the Shooting Brake combines sporty sophistication with everyday practicality, marrying the brand’s unmistakable styling with electric performance.
Stunning Design Meets Everyday Function
From the front, the CLA Shooting Brake shares its design DNA with the sedan—featuring a wide grille, distinctive lighting, and a full-width front light bar. Move toward the rear, and the differences become clear: the roofline extends with a gentle arc, creating a streamlined silhouette that’s more elegant than a traditional wagon but more versatile than a coupe. A small rear spoiler and wraparound taillights give it a confident finish.
Inside, a panoramic heat-insulating glass roof lets in the light while keeping the cabin comfortable year-round. For those who crave a truly elevated experience, the available “Star Panel” glass roof adds a new dimension—literally. With 158 embedded stars that illuminate in an array of ambient hues, it’s the first of its kind in a Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
Designed for Life on the Go
True to its practical roots, the CLA Shooting Brake offers impressive utility to match its good looks. Rear passengers benefit from increased headroom, and drivers will appreciate the expanded cargo space—up to 46 cubic feet with the seats folded, plus an additional 4 cubic feet in the frunk. Roof rails come standard, making it ready for your next road trip or weekend escape.
Electrified Performance, Mercedes-Benz Style
Under the hood—or rather, beneath the floor—the CLA Shooting Brake is built on an advanced 800-volt architecture and features an 85-kWh battery pack. Two electric variants lead the charge:
-
CLA 250+ (RWD): 268 hp, ~400-mile estimated EPA range, 0–62 mph in 6.8 seconds
-
CLA 350 (AWD): 349 hp, ~386-mile estimated EPA range
Both versions offer a two-speed rear axle transmission for enhanced efficiency and performance at both low and high speeds. And with charging speeds of up to 320 kW, you’ll spend more time driving and less time waiting.
The One That Got Away (For Now)
Unfortunately, the CLA Shooting Brake won’t be making its way to U.S. dealerships. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that only the CLA sedan will be available stateside—leaving this stylish wagon a European exclusive.
Still, the evolution of the CLA lineup signals big things ahead for the Mercedes-Benz electric family. Whether you’re looking to embrace the new CLA EV sedan or simply admire the Shooting Brake from afar, it’s clear that innovation and elegance are traveling side by side into the future.
